Why? I needed a change and new challenges. I feel like there is something in me that I want to express and roads ahead that I want to explore. This is probably the scariest decision I have ever made. Going from financial stability to insecurity.

I have been working as a full-time developer since 2013 and I finally felt that I had enough experience to start on my own and the timing seemed good. I had some savings which gives me some time to get started and the market seems to be good for developers at the moment.

My last day at my job was May 31st. After that I took a long vacation sprinkled with some thinking and planning for my own company. I finally decided on a name: "Excolo". Excolo is latin and can be translated to "cultivate, refine, develop, improve, work carefully, attend” which i felt really sums up what I want the company to be about.

I will be doing contracting work as a programmer and system developer (mainly remote). I will also be working on some ideas for some new products/services (more on this later).

I am so exited to find out where this journey takes me!
